What Will Your Donations Pay for?

‘The prostate cancer initiative for ICGC is all about generating invaluable data that will power the search for new ways to tackle prostate cancer. Much of the funding pays for the high-tech genetic sequencing of tumour samples, mapping and homing in on the faults that drive prostate cancer. The next step is analysing the data to find vital clues – serious number-crunching relying on the expertise of world-leading scientists and the power of the latest computing technology.’

We are delighted to announce the arrival of Erol Ezen as Director and Partner at BC Commercial.

Erol’s areas of expertise is the London West End market, specifically Oxford Street. Within the last 24 months notable transactions on Oxford Street, include the 145,000 sq ft Primark letting, the disposal of HMV’s Oxford Street lease to Forever 21 – achieving a record premium of £13.75M, plus the acquisition of the new Disney flagship store at a rent in excess of £2.0M pax.

The company’s intention is to expand in the South East and London markets and the addition of Erol to the team means BC Commercial can offer clients best in class advice in one of the most competitive markets in the UK.

babyCongratulations to Mike and Natalie who this month had their first child, a bouncing baby girl called Alice. The plan is to quickly integrate her into the boutique retail market and to make sure she plays better tennis than her father.

New Website…again

Websites1Some of you may have noticed, but our previous website has had a small makeover.

The nice people at Hasbro (they who own Monopoly) seemed to think the previous website was some form of reference to the board game. Rather than argue our point we thought we would try something different.

Many thanks to Juliane at Graphic Outlines who helped put it together. We hope you like it.

Father time

In preparation for their inaugural cricket match this summer on 17th July, BC Commercial spent an evening practicing in the nets at the home of Cricket.

RB, the self appointed captain, had been expressing concerns about selection having not witnessed any of the BC Commercial team play cricket previously. The only solution was to arrange a net practice to try out for the final 11.

After a number of trips to the Sportsworld racks for the latest whites, the entire team of 5 arrived at Lords keen to prove their worth. The early hostile spell was reserved for the Captain who dealt comfortably with the aggressive 6 balls. The years of working lunches quickly caught up with the 2 Nick’s and run ups turned to strolls and the sledging turned to slush.

The jewel in the team is potentially young Matthew. Being nearest to school he still had the resemblance of form however the mind is fragile and the proof will be in the pudding. As an aside his favorite pudding is the indomitable Jam Roly-Poly so we look forward to the tea being supplied on match day.

MC is a shoe in for both the 11th batsman and 11th bowling position. All is not lost however; JM can probably take his squash skills with him onto the square, blue blooded GH must be able to swing a bat (rumour has it he was conceived in the MCC Long Room) and the fact we have 3 people that originated in Yorkshire bodes well.

In truth the key strength will be the weakness of the opposition and likelihood of rain in July. Anyone who would like to join us for the match either as a spectator or player is more than welcome so just let us know.

Christmas Cheer

December 8th, 2009

SnowfieldTomorrow the 2009 BC Christmas party is occuring. The participants consists of a mixture of experienced hands and novices.  It will be the first for the investment boys Jonny, George and Twiggy and Frixos is back for a guest appearence to prove that last years slip ups were only a blip.

In truth expectations are low. NF is in charge this year and we seem destined to be disappointed. His theme seems to consist of maintaining all activities within a single block of the office. I think he gave the restaurant 24 hrs notice and the fact they can accommodate 10 suggests they will not be found on page 1 of the Square Meal.

Entertainment is to be provided in the form of an action packed quiz ‘Graduate challenge’. Gary vs Matt is hardly Hatton vs Khan however its the best we can do within the geographical restrictions of the day. I think Gary might be odds on favorite with Matt experiencing his first SAS party this evening.

It’s bound to underwhelm after the the screaming success of 2008…

Love Ebenezer
